Benign Prostatic hyperplasia is estimated to affect over 50% of man in
their lifetime, with advancing age bringing greater frequency. Pros-Guard
provides an array of of protective herbs including Saw Palmetto Extract
and African Pygeum Extract, synergistic amino acids and nutrients
especially beneficial to the health of the prostrate. This formula,
synergistically blended with the NT Factor tablet base enhances the
potential for better absorption and rapid results. We use a range of
extracts containing the glycosides & sterols to provide a full
spectrum formula !
Effective
therapies for solid tumors remain elusive. Because of inherent and
acquired resistance of tumor cells to conventional treatments and the
small effective therapeutic window available treatment is difficult.
For the most part combinational treatments are used. These treatments
seek to induce apoptosis. Apoptosis is a type of cell death in which
the cell uses specialized cellular machinery to kill itself. It
enables animals and people to control cell number and eliminate cells
that threaten its survival.
According to one
study, chemotherapy and other treatments seek to cause apoptosis in
human pancreatic cancer cells (HPCC). What has been found is that
such action increases cellular Reactive Oxygen Stress (ROS)
production. This ROS, however, was prevented by general
antioxidants. The induction of apoptosis in cancer cells also
resulted in the reduction of important anti-apoptosis proteins in the
cancer cells.
Another study
suggested that Vitamin E acts as a strong inducer of apoptosis in
human prostate cancer cells. The problem with HPCC is that the
normal regulators off cell growth such as apoptosis and tumor
necrosis have been turned off. In one study, three antioxidants
were tested separately. The antioxidants were successful in
stimulating cell death in prostate cancer cells. This caused the
cancer cells to actively divide. However, confluent cells were
unaffected.
Prostate cancer is
related closely to the effects of aging in men. A shift in the
balance of pro-oxidant and anti-oxidants is also associated with the
aging process. This shift causes an increase in the levels of
oxidative stress. Also known to be related to aging is the increase
in oxidative stress. A recent research project looked at whether
androgen exposure was the reason for the shift in balance. It
studied the effects of androgens on various parameters of oxidative
stress and antioxidant defense mechanisms.
The study concluded
that physiological levels of androgens are able to increase
oxidative stress in androgen responsive prostate cancer cells. This
suggests that this increase is due in part to and increase in
mitochondrial activity. The androgens also effect intracellular
glutathione levels which is important for the balance of prooxidant
and antioxidant balance.
What makes Pros-Guard so
special??
NTI's
Pros-Guard is a combination of amino acids, and botanical or
phytotherapies.
Most prostate cancer and
enlarged prostates show an imbalance in blood plasma amino acids makeup.
Changes in plasma amino acids may reflect changes in protein metabolism.
Such changes can occur with different pathological conditions, such as
cancer of the prostate. Many cancer symptoms may be the result of a
disturbance in proteins. Since amino acids are the building blocks for
all protein they have a direct impact on protein metabolism.
Results of a study done
showed three main points. First, that amino acids showed significant
improvement with amino acid supplementation. Second, subjects of the
study showed positive response in remission, stabilization and improvement
in quality of life without side effect of adverse effects. Thirdly, there
is beneficial control of collateral damage from radiotherapy and
chemotherapy.
Studies of L-glycine, L-alanine
and L-glumetic acid have demonstrated that these three amino acids
relieved many of the symptoms of an enlarged prostrate. These symptoms
included reduced nighttime urination, reduced urgency, reduced frequency
and alleviation of delayed urination. Researchers found after four weeks
that the swelling was significantly less and the symptoms as well.
Stinging Nettles
Stinging Nettles have
been used for hundreds of years for various ailments. One of the main
uses today is for treatment of symptoms of early stage prostrate
problems.
Several studies have been
done to look at the efficacy of using stinging nettles for the treatment
of prostrate problems. One study found that patients who used stinging
nettles and followed up treatment had favorable results with no side
effects reported. It was seen to be beneficial effects in the treatment
of symptomatic BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia).
Saw Palmetto
Saw palmetto has been
used in many western countries to relieve the symptoms of enlarged
prostate (BPH). It contains a number of compounds including plant sterols
and fatty acids.
A study of Saw palmetto
and stinging nettles combined found the combination advantageous in
treating the obstructive and irritating effects of BPH. This included
patients with moderate to severe symptoms. Side effects were small and
matched those of a placebo.
African Pygeum
African pygeum is most
widely known for its ability to relieve the symptoms of prostrate cancer
and BPH. Due to the chemicals in pygeum, triterpenes and n-docosamol, it
has successfully reduced prostrate enlargement. Triterpenes acts as an
anti-inflammatory and n-docosamol keeps cholesterol from building up in
the prostrate. Working in unison they reduce the enlargement of the
prostrate. A review of studies found that men taking pygeum were twice as
likely to report an overall improvement in symptoms.
